Our thanks to all of those who attended our third annual Kids Fitness Festival on September 26th at the Whitman-Hanson Regional High School. This event is one of the primary fundraisers for the Whitman Hanson Education Foundation, Inc a 501(c)(3) organization that funds education grants in all of the Whitman-Hanson schools.
Despite the tough economic times that many businesses have had to weather this past year, we received tremendous support from the business community to bring this event together. American Kempo Karate Academy, Boss Academy of Performing Arts, Stardust Gym, Old Colony YMCA, Sureshot Promotions, Hanson Family Dental, Whitman Academy of Performing Arts, Kick It USA, Healthtrax, Coastal Party Rentals, Massasoit Community College and Artvarks all gave generously of their time, resources and staff to bring performances and/or activities to this event. Carousel Family Fun Center brought Babs & Buttons as well as the boy band Fifth Floor to entertain attendees. KO of the Brockton Rox was a big hit with old and young alike.
Trio Cafe, Bryantville Deli, Lambert's, Wendy's, Signature Healthcare, Shaw's, Ocean Spray, Conley PAC and Jamie's Pub & Grille were incredibly generous in donating healthy food samples for the event.
We are also grateful to the many businesses who donated raffle items for this event. To that end, we would like to thank Distinctive Auto Body , Body & Soul Fitness, Target, BJ's, Rockland Athletics, Red Sox, Walt Disneyworld, P&T Sports, Johnny's Foodmaster, Stop& Shop, British Beer Company, Drama Kids, Valentine Piano, Home Depot, Olde Hitching Post, South Shore Natural Science Center , Myette's, Whole Foods, Tedeschi's, Timberlanes, Donnelly Orthodontics and Regal Marketplace for their donations.
Many attendees commented on how smoothly the event went and this was directly attributable to the District staff all of whom were incredibly helpful and responsive to our needs and to Ernie Sandland and his staff for their attention to detail. We are indebted to the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District for allowing us to host the event at the Whitman-Hanson Regional High School.
Clearly, it would not be possible for us to run an event the size and scope of the Kids Fitness Festival without volunteers on hand to help staff the event. To that end, we would like to thank the Rockland-Hanson Rotary for their incredible support as well as John Kemmett, Kate Howard, Brooke Reynolds, Debbie Blosz, Paul Stevens, Doreen Dow, Sara Dow, Hannah Kemmett, Regina FitzGerald, Tom Stevens,Dave Jennings, Kristafor Stevens, Donna Gill-Colestock, and Paul Nicol. We would also like to thank Lisa Shea and Nina Consolini's students in the Key Club and Community Service Learning groups as well as the Hanson Middle School Builders Club whose boundless energy and positive attitudes made them a delight to manage.
Our thanks goes out to Green Hanson and Whitman Girl Scouts who joined us this year and along with Artvarks provided attendees with some magical crafting memories.
The Hanson Police Department and Whitman Police Department showcased some of their community policing programs. This provided a great opportunity for the children to meet local police officers and for their parents to learn about the programs each town offers. In addition, the Plymouth County Sheriff's K-9 Unit provided attendees the chance to see a live drug search demonstration. We wish to extend our sincerest thanks to each of these police departments for their unwavering commitment to this event year after year.
